A Component Required to Connect Over the Internet Failed to Initialize Error when Launching LapLink - Search Again SUMMARY I've just installed LapLink. When I try to start the program the first time, I get a message that A Component that is Required to Use Connect over Internet failed to Initialize. What do I do? SOLUTION This error happens when the files used to connect over the Internet are a different version that what LapLink expects. The following process will need to be followed in order to resolve this error and will not affect other programs installed on the system.
LapLink will first need to be uninstalled.
- From the Windows Start menu, go to Settings and click Control Panel.
- Double click Add/Remove Programs.
- On the Install/Uninstall tab, double click LapLink 2000
- Complete the uninstall and reboot the computer.
After your computer has finished rebooting follow these steps:
- From the Windows Start menu go to Find and click Files and Folders
- In the Named box type ILS.dll
- In the Look In box choose the C drive.
- Click on Find Now.
- In the results box at the bottom, right click ILS.dll and click Rename
- Change the name of the file to ILS.ick
- In the Named box, type ILScore.dll
- Click on Find Now
- In the results box at the bottom, right click ILScore.dll and click Rename
- Change the name of the file to ILScore.ick
Note: This file may not be found on the system. Simply proceed to reinstalling LapLink.
- Close the Find: All Files window.
The system is now ready to have LapLink reinstalled.
- Insert the LapLink CD into the CD-ROM drive and when the Welcome screen appears, click Install LapLink
- During the installation, you will see a Version Conflict message that says The file Wldapi32.dll is older than the one on your system. Do you want to keep this file. Yes or No. Click No.
- Reboot the computer to finish installin
