Error Message: MSVCIRT.DLL is linked to missing export MSVCRT.DLL when Launching PCsync - Search Again

 

SUMMARY

I've installed PCsync on my computer, but I get this error when I start the program. Can you help me?

 

CAUSE

This problem is caused when these two DLL files do not have the same version number, or they have been corrupted.

 

SOLUTION

The solution is to uninstall PCsync, restore both files to their original versions, and then reinstall PCsync.

Uninstalling PCsync

  1. From the Windows Start menu, point to Settings and click Control Panel.

  2. Click Add/Remove Programs.

  3. Click PCsync and then Change/Remove.

  4. When PCsync has been uninstalled, do not reboot the computer if prompted.


Restoring the files on computers running Windows Millennium.
  1. From the Windows Start menu, point to Run.

  2. Type MSCONFIG and click OK. This will start the System Configuration Utility.

  3. Click to select Selective Startup.

  4. Click to uncheck the boxes for Process Config.sys file, Process Autoexec.bat file, and Load Startup Group items.

  5. Click OK and reboot the computer when prompted.

  6. From the Windows Start menu, point to Run.
  7. Type MSCONFIG and click OK.

  8. Click Extract File.

  9. In Specify the system file you would like to restore, type MSVCIRT.DLL .

  10. Click Start.

  11. In Restore From, type the location of the Windows installation (.cab) files. For example, if you have a Windows Millennium CD-ROM the path to the installation files will be CD-ROM drive\WIN9X.
  12. Confirm that C:\Windows\System is listed in Save File In.

  13. Click OK.

  14. In the Backup File dialog, click OK and then Yes.

  15. Click OK.

  16. Repeat Steps 6-15 except type MSVCRT.DLL in Specify the system file you would like to restore in Step 9.

  17. Restart the computer.


Restoring the files on computers running Windows 98
  1. From the Windows Start menu, point to Run.

  2. Type MSCONFIG and click OK. This will start the System Configuration Utility.

  3. Click to select Selective Startup.

  4. Click to uncheck the boxes for Process Config.sys file, Process Autoexec.bat file, and Load Startup Group items.

  5. Click OK and reboot the computer when prompted.

  6. From the Windows Start menu, point to Run.
  7. Type SFC and click OK. This will launch the System File Checker.

  8. Choose Extract One file from Installation disk.

  9. Type MSVCIRT.DLL.

  10. Click Start.

  11. In Restore From, type the location of the Windows installation (.cab) files. For example, if you have a Windows Millennium CD-ROM the path to the installation files will be CD-ROM drive\WIN98.
  12. Confirm that C:\Windows\System is listed in Save File In.

  13. Click OK.

  14. In the Backup File dialog, click OK and then Yes.

  15. Click OK.

  16. Repeat Steps 6-15 except type MSVCRT.DLL in Specify the system file you would like to restore in Step 9.

  17. Restart the computer.


Reinstalling PCsync
  1. Insert the PCsync CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive.

  2. Click Installation on the Welcome screen and follow the steps to install PCsync.

  3. Note: If the Welcome screen does not appear, run Welcome.exe from the PCsync CD-ROM.
    Note: If you have previously installed the cable drivers, do not install them again.
