Error Message: Phone Book fails to Initialize when Lauching LapLink - Search Again

SUMMARY

I installed LapLink on my Windows 2000 system, but when I open the program, I receive an error: Phone Book is unable to initialize. What can I do so that I can use the Address Book for my LapLink connections?

CAUSE

The LapLink Address Book files are protected by Windows 2000 security if the drive uses NTFS. Windows may prohibit access to the LapLink Address book files if the user is not a Windows 2000 Power User or Administrator when installing LapLink.

SOLUTION

  1. Contact your Network Administrator to receive appropriate permissions to log into Windows 2000 as a Power User or Administrator.

  2. After you've logged in, open Windows Explorer.

  3. Right-click the LapLink Address Book files and click Properties.

  4. Note: Please contact LapLink Technical Support to obtain the names of the LapLink Address Book files.
  5. Click the Security tab.

  6. Click the user group that the LapLink user belongs to.

  7. Confirm that Full Control is allowed.

  8. Note: If Full Control is denied, click Advanced and then View/Edit to change the permission in the user group. Alternatively, change the membership of the LapLink user to another group that has Full Control permission.
