Changes to Passwords in LapLink 2000 and LapLink Gold - Search Again

SUMMARY

I've upgraded my LapLink program. Now all my saved address book entries aren't working, and I can't get connect to a machine running LapLink 2000 or LapLink Gold from my older versions of LapLink. What do I do?

SOLUTION

Starting with LapLink 2000 and continuing in LapLink Gold, passwords are case sensitive (for example, the letters "B" and "b" are treated differently). How you handle these connections depends on what versions of LapLink you are connecting between.

Connecting between two LapLink 2000 or LapLink Gold machines: Simply type in the password using capital and lowercase letters exactly as they were entered into the login list.

Connecting from a LapLink 2000 or LapLink Gold machine to an earlier version of LapLink: Passwords were not case-sensitive on earlier versions of LapLink (LapLink Professional, LapLink Technical, LapLink for Windows NT/7.5 or LapLink for Windows version 6). When you type in the password connections to any of these versions be sure to use ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. If you've upgraded to LapLink 2000 or LapLink Gold from an earlier version, and you have address book entries for connections to older versions, update them to use ALL CAPITAL LETTERS as follows:
In LapLink 2000 or LapLink Gold, open the Address Book one of the following ways:
Click on the Address Book icon on the toolbar
In LapLink, point to the Options menu and click on Address Book.
Highlight the entry you wish to change and click Edit
In the Security information to send section, type in the password. Be sure to use ALL CAPITAL LETTERS.
Click OK and Close. The entry has now been updated.

Connecting from earlier versions to LapLink 2000 or LapLink Gold: Earlier versions of the LapLink software did not allow for case sensitivity in their passwords. In order to ensure you can use your address book entries to connect, follow these steps:
On the LapLink 2000 or LapLink Gold machine, create a new password for the Log-in list entry to be used.
In LapLink point to Options, click on Security.
Click on Log-In-List
Highlight the entry to be used and click on Edit.
In the Password field, type in the password. Be sure to use ALL CAPITAL LETTERS.
Click on OK to save.
Click on Close.
In the earlier version of LapLink, modify the Address Book entry to match the new password.
Open the Address Book in one of the following ways:
Click on the Address Book icon on the toolbar
In LapLink point to the Options menu and click on Address Book.
Highlight the entry you wish to change and click Edit
In the Security information to send section, type in the new password. Be sure to use ALL CAPITAL LETTERS.
Click OK and Close. The entry has now been updated.
