Error Message: Access Denied when using an Xchange Agent - Search Again SUMMARY I have an Xchange Agent that copies files to a computer where I've just upgraded to LapLink 2000 or LapLink Gold. Now only some of the files transfer or none at all. I get a message stating Access is denied. What is causing this error? CAUSE This message occurs when Folder Security is set on the computer with LapLink 2000 or LapLink Gold after creating the Xchange Agent. When the Agent runs, it compares the contents of the folder pairs between the two computers. If Folder Security is set to restrict access to the drive or some of the folders contained in the Agent, you will see this behavior. The behavior changes depending on the versions of LapLink involved. SOLUTION For computers running LapLink 2000 or LapLink Gold and connecting to a computer running LapLink 2000 or LapLink Gold:
An Access is denied error message is displayed when an Xchange Agent reads a drive or folder on the remote machine that is protected by LapLink's Folder Security settings. No files will be transferred, even if there are some folder pairs in the Xchange Agent are not restricted. If you wish to transfer only folder pairs that are unrestricted, create a separate Xchange Agent, or use the drag and drop method to copy the folders manually.
For computers running LapLink ver 7.5, LapLink Professional, or LapLink Technical connecting to a computer running LapLink 2000 or LapLink Gold:
Note: The Xchange Agent runs on the computer using LapLink ver 7.5, Professional or Technical in this case.
An Access is denied error message is displayed when an Xchange Agent reads a drive or folder on the remote machine that is protected by LapLink's Folder Security settings. No files will transfer.
If, however, the drive is accessible, but a folder pair has been restricted by Folder Security, only the restricted folder pair will be skipped. This means some files will transfer, while others will not. You will not get any message stating that some files did not transfer. Note: Use the LapLink log file to check the results of the Xchange Agent. This can be viewed from LapLink's Options menu, Logging, View Log. All log files are located in the folder where you installed LapLink, for example, C:\Program Files\LapLink 2000, and have a .LOG file extention. They can be opened with Notepad.
