Error Message: Creation of Window Failed when LapLink is Configured to Start Before Windows or Network Logon - Search Again

SUMMARY

I tried to dial into my Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP computer and create a file transfer service. The connection is successful, but I get this error message. What’s wrong?

CAUSE

Two conditions are necessary for this error message to appear.

LapLink has been configured to start before the Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP logon.
The host computer is waiting at the logon for the connection.

LapLink does not support opening a file transfer service before the computer has been authenticated (logged on) to the network. To do so would be a security violation. LapLink allows only the remote control service to connect before a computer is authenticated. Once the computer is authenticated, all LapLink services are available, as allowed by the LapLink Log-in List.

SOLUTION

To resolve this error message, follow these steps:

  1. Connect to the Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP computer using the remote control service.

  2. Use Ctrl/Shift/D to get to the Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP logon screen.

  3. Provide your network UserName and Password. When the authentication has finished, two choices can be taken:

    • Disconnect, and dial back in requesting the file transfer service.

    • While still connected, add the file transfer service from LapLink's Link Bar or Window menu.
