Configuring a SMC Barricade Broadband Router for LapLink Connections - Search Again

SUMMARY

I am installing a SMC Barricade broadband router on my network. Can I configure it to allow LapLink to connect securely over the Internet?

CAUSE

SMC’s Barricade broadband router uses Network Address Translation (NAT) and a firewall to protect your internal network. In order to make ports accessible for LapLink to connect over the Internet, you will need to enable the Virtual Server Mapping.

SOLUTION

A virtual server uses a Service Port to redirect all requests to the computer specified by the Server IP.

Note: If you need assistance making these changes, please contact SMC for technical support. We provide these instructions as a service to our customers. We have not tested LapLink with this hardware.

  1. Using the web-based configuration software on the router, log in as an Administrator.

  2. Click Virtual Server in the left navigation frame.

  3. In the Service Port column, type 1547.

  4. In the Server IP column, type the IP address for the computer LapLink will be connecting to.

  5. Check the Enable box.

  6. Note: Only one computer (IP address) using port 1547 can be enabled at a time.
