Using PCsync 1.x to Connect Over a Local Area Network - Search Again SUMMARY I want to connect to a PCsync computer over the local area network. How can I do this? SOLUTION PCsync 1.x was not specifically designed for connecting over a local area network (LAN). However, you can connect to a Remote Shared Folder if you know the IP address for that computer. If you need help finding the IP adddress for a computer, see Technical Document 204 How to Determine the IP Address on a Computer.
Configure the computer you are connecting to:
- From the Options menu and click Shared Folder Security.
- Click Yes, share this folder.
- Click the Browse button and locate the folder you want shared.
- In the Unique name for this PC box, type the IP address for this computer that you obtained earlier.
- Specify the User name and Passwords in the boxes provided.
- Click OK.
Configure the computer you are connecting from:
- From the Connect menu, click Help me add a Remote Shared Folder.
- Type the IP address of the other computer in the Unique Name box.
- Change the Descriptive Name to something that helps you know what computer you're connecting to.
- Type the User name and Password that were assigned on the other computer.
- Click OK.
Note: If you don't add in the User name and Password you will be prompted to supply them each time you connect.
Now you'll see the descriptive name you selected in the PCsync tree pane.
Connecting across the LAN:
- Double-click the descriptive name under Remote Shared Folders.
- If prompted, supply the User name and Password.
Note: PCsync version 2.0 has support for Local Area Network and Internet connections. Related Articles | | |
