How do I Install LapLink in Windows Safe Mode? - Search Again

SUMMARY

I was instructed to install LapLink from Windows Safe Mode. How do I do that?

SOLUTION

Sometimes other programs that you have installed on your computer may keep LapLink from installing correctly. When your computer runs in Safe Mode, files and drivers from these other programs aren't running. Here's the steps:

Before booting your computer into Safe Mode, copy the contents of the LapLink CD to your hard drive.

  1. Insert the LapLink CD into your CD-ROM drive

  2. From the Windows Start menu, point to Programs and click Windows Explorer

  3. Note: For Windows 2000, right click the Windows Start menu and click Explore
  4. In the Folders window, click to highlight the C drive

  5. From the File menu, click New and point to Folder

  6. Name the new folder LapLink Install and press Enter

  7. In the Folders window, click the plus sign (+) next to your CD-ROM drive letter to display the contents

  8. From the Edit menu, click Select All.

  9. Click one of the highlighted files and drag to the LapLink Install folder you created on the C drive.

  10. When Windows has finished copying, close Windows Explorer.

  11. Refer to Technical Document 102, How do I boot into Safe Mode for directions on entering Safe Mode.

  12. As the computer is booting into Safe Mode, click OK.

To install LapLink, run the setup program from the hard drive.

  1. From the Windows Start menu, point to Programs and click Windows Explorer .

  2. In the Folders window, click to highlight the C drive.

  3. Double-click the LapLink Install folder.

  4. Double-click WELCOME.EXE and follow the installation program.
  5. Reboot your computer when it has finished.
