Advanced Troubleshooting for the USB Network Cable for PCsync
- Search Again SUMMARY I have followed all the instructions, but I am still not able to connect. Are there some advanced steps that I can perform to get connected?
SOLUTION For Computers running Windows 98 or Windows Millennium: Restart the computer to Safe Mode:
- Reboot your machine pressing F8 once every second to boot to the Windows 98 Start Menu
- Use the arrow keys and highlight Safe Mode and press Enter.
Once the computer is running in Safe Mode follow these steps:
- From the Windows Start menu, point to Settings and click Control Panel .
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs .
- Double-click LapLink USB Network Cable Driver .
- When prompted to remove all components, click OK.
- When prompted to reboot the computer, click No.
Continuing in the Control Panel:
- Double-click System.
- Click the Device Manager tab.
- Click the plus (+) next to Network Adapters .
- If the USB-USB Network Bridge Adapter or LapLink, Inc. USB Network Cable is listed, highlight it and click Remove.
- Click the plus (+) next to Other Devices .
Note: This may not appear on your system. Proceed to the next step if this is not displayed within Device Manager.
- Remove ALL items from under Other Devices.
- Click on the plus (+) next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers .
- Remove any USB-USB Network Bridge Driver or LapLink, Inc. USB Network Cable devices listed.
- Unplug the USB Network cable from the back of the computer.
- Reboot the machine.
Note: If you see multiple items located under a Device category or if multiple Other Devices are listed inside of Device Manager, LapLink, Inc. Technical Support recommends that you remove all devices in order to allow Windows to detect the hardware correctly. This could indicate that there is a problem with your system. If you are not comfortable with this process, contact your hardware manufacturer to correct this problem. For Computers running Windows 2000 Restart the computer to Safe Mode:
- Reboot your computer, pressing F8 to boot to the Windows 2000 Start Menu.
- Use the arrow keys and highlight Safe Mode and press Enter.
Once the computer is running in Safe Mode follow these steps:
- From the Windows Start menu, point to Settings and click Control Panel .
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs .
- Double-click LapLink USB Network Cable Driver .
- Click OK to the screen Do you want to completely remove the selected application and all of its components?
- Click No to reboot the machine
Continuing in the Control Panel:
- Double-click System.
- Click the Hardware tab.
- Click the Device Manager button
- Click the plus (+) next to Network Adapters.
- If the USB-USB Network Bridge Adapter is listed, highlight it and click Remove.
- Click the plus (+) next to Other Devices .
Note: This may not appear on your system. Proceed to the next step if this is not displayed within Device Manager
- Remove ALL items from under Other Devices .
- Click the plus (+) next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers .
- Remove any USB-USB Network Bridge devices, if listed.
- Unplug the USB cable from the computer.
- Reboot the machine.
Note: If you see multiple items located under a Device category inside of Device Manager, LapLink, Inc. Technical Support recommends that you remove all devices in order to allow Windows to detect the hardware correctly. If you are not comfortable with this process, contact your hardware manufacturer to correct this problem
Re-install the USB cable drivers without the cable plugged in.
