Adding an IP Address to the Serial Network Cable Adapter - Search Again

 

SUMMARY

I am having problems connecting after installing the serial adapter. When I click on My serial Connection, I am unable to connect. What can I do?

 

CAUSE

LapLink has identified some issues with packet broadcasting when using the serial cable network adapter. One or more of the solutions listed may be needed.

 

SOLUTION

For computers running Windows 95 or Windows 98

  1. From the Windows Start menu, point to Settings and click Control Panel.

  2. Double-click Network.

  3. Double-click TCP -> Laplink Serial Adapter.

  4. On the IP Address tab, click Specify an IP Address.

    • For the first computer enter:
      10.0.0.1 for the IP Address
      255.0.0.0 for the Subnet Mask

      For the second computer:
      10.0.0.2 for the IP Address
      255.0.0.0 for the Subnet Mask

      Note: If you have PCsync and the LapLink Serial Adapter installed on a third computer, use the following IP address scheme:
      10.0.0.3 for the IP Address
      255.0.0.0 for the Subnet Mask

  5. Click OK.

  6. Click Yes to restart your computer.

For a machine running Windows 2000
  1. From the Windows Start menu, point to Settings, then Network and Dial Up Connections and click the Local Area Network connection for the LapLink Serial network adapter.

  2. Click the Properties button.

  3. Double-click Internet protocol (TCP/IP).

  4. Click Use the following IP Address.

    • For the first computer enter:
      10.0.0.1 for the IP Address
      255.0.0.0 for the Subnet Mask

      For the second computer:
      10.0.0.2 for the IP Address
      255.0.0.0 for the Subnet Mask

      Note: If you have PCsync and the LapLink Serial Adapter installed on a third computer, use the following IP address scheme:
      10.0.0.3 for the IP Address
      255.0.0.0 for the Subnet Mask

  5. Click OK.

For machines running Windows NT
  1. From the Windows Start menu, point to Settings and click Control Panel.

  2. Double-click Network.

  3. Click the Adapters tab.

  4. Double-click the Laplink Serial Adapter.

    • For the first computer enter:
      10.0.0.1 for the IP Address
      255.0.0.0 for the Subnet Mask

      For the second computer:
      10.0.0.2 for the IP Address
      255.0.0.0 for the Subnet Mask

      Note: If you have PCsync and the LapLink Serial Adapter installed on a third computer, use the following IP address scheme:
      10.0.0.3 for the IP Address
      255.0.0.0 for the Subnet Mask

  5. Click OK.

  6. Click Yes to restart your computer.

After rebooting, try the PCsync serial connection again.
