Error Message: PCsync could not make a cable connection - Search Again

SUMMARY

I am trying to connect PCsync with the blue serial cable and I get this error message when I click My Serial Connections. What I can do?

SOLUTION

There are several simple things to check.

  • Make certain that you have the most recent version of PCsync.
Note: Check the PCsync support page for information about free downloads.
  • Firmly attach the cable directly to the serial port on both of your computers.

  • Run the install program for PCsync and the serial cable drivers on both computers.
  • Run PCsync on both computers.

  • Enable the correct COM port in File Sync. Do this on both computers.

    1. From PCsync's Options menu, click Port Status.

    2. Click to select the COM name that matches the serial port on your computer.

    3. Note: If in doubt, select all four COMs. If you make any changes, shut down and restart PCsync.

  • Disable Autoconnect on one computer.

    1. From PCsync's Options menu, click Port Status.

    2. Clear the check box Automatically connect at startup.

  • Disable any firewall programs before starting PCsync. See Technical Document 303, Using PCsync in a Secure Environment for more information.

If the connection continues to fail, see Technical Document 348, Verifying the Serial Network Cable Adapter Installation for more troubleshooting suggestions.
