How do I install JAVA Virtual Machine onto my Computer? - Search Again

SUMMARY

I tried to install PCsync but it is telling me that JAVA Virtual Machine (VM) must be installed or updated. What do I do?

SOLUTION

Pcsync requires JAVA VM version 5.00.3309 or later.

Choose one of these options for updating JAVA on your computer:

  • Download and install Internet Explorer 5.0 or later from Microsoft. This installs a compatible version of JAVA

  • Install JAVA VM from PCsync's Welcome screen.

For computers running Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows NT
    Using the PCsync CD-ROM:
    1. Place the PCsync CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive

    2. The PCsync Welcome screen appears.

    3. Click on Install JAVA Virtual Machine

    Using downloaded PCsync:
    1. From the Windows Start Menu point to Programs and click Windows Explorer

    2. Browse to the directory where you extracted the Pcsync files.

    3. Double-click WELCOME.EXE

    4. Click Install JAVA Virtual Machine

    5. After the installation, reboot your computer.

    For machines running Windows 2000
Download and install SP2 or later available from Microsoft.

If you want to check the version of JAVA on your computer, follow these steps:
  1. From the Windows Start Menu, click Run.

  2. In the Open box, type COMMAND.COM

  3. Press OK

  4. At the C:\> prompt, type JVIEW and press Enter

  5. You will see all the information about your JAVA version.

  6. The version should read 5.00.3309 or higher.

  7. Type EXIT to close the DOS window.
