Configuring a NetGear Cable/DSL Router for use with PCsync - Search Again

SUMMARY

How can I configure my NetGear RT311 or RT314 DSL router so that PCsync can make connections over the Internet?

CAUSE

See Technical Document 303, Using PCsync in a Secure Environment for more information.

SOLUTION

NetGear uses a web interface to configure the router. Point your browser to http://192.168.0.1 on your local network, or type TELNET 192.168.0.1 from the Windows Run command.

Under Menu 15 – Multiple Server Configuration: On the left column enter ports 8080, 8444, and 8443. In the right hand column, specify the IP address of the computer running PCsync. You may now connect to your internal PCsync computer by using the external IP assigned to the WAN port on the DSL router. *

Under Menu 21 – Filter Set Configuration: Review your filters and confirm that ports 80, 389, 8080, 8443, and 8444 are not blocked, otherwise PCsync may not work.

* See Technical Document 305, How to Surf Up to a Computer behind a Router/Firewall for more information.
