Using LapLink and PCsync Simultaneously - Search Again

SUMMARY

If you run LapLink and PCsync at the same time, you may encounter one of the problems listed.

CAUSE

Both applications may be trying to use the same serial port.

SOLUTION

Two issues were found when LapLink and PCsync are installed on the same machine:

  1. In Windows 2000, LapLink may not shut down correctly if there is a COM port enabled, causing the computer to freeze. In Windows ME, LapLink may not shut down correctly, causing a Blue screen error in Windows' Kernel32 file.

  2. Only one program can connect with the serial port. When running PCsync and LapLink simultaneously, only the first program started will make a successful serial connection. The other program will report the port as unavailable or fail when attempting the serial connection.

If you encounter either of these problems, try one of the following suggestions:
  • Run only one application be run at a time.

  • Use a USB connection for one of the programs.

  • Leave the serial ports disabled in both programs.

Note: Here are the steps to disable a serial port in LapLink.
  1. Go to the Options menu and click Port Setup.

  2. Highlight any COM ports that are enabled or unavailable, and click to clear the check mark in Enable Port.
