Unable to Enable Link to Net on LapLink 2000 or LapLink Gold - Search Again

SUMMARY

When trying to enable Link to Net within LapLink 2000 or LapLink Gold, the options box remains gray and will not let me enable. How do I fix this?

SOLUTION

There are several items that Link to Net requires in order to enable this option. Please ensure all requirements are met.

• Is there a modem and a Network Interface Card (NIC) installed on the computer?

LapLink must have both a modem & NIC installed on the computer. These hardware components must have the manufacturer's drivers installed and cannot appear as standard devices in the system properties.

• Is the modem set to use the physical COM port in LapLink?

LapLink can allow functionality of the modem directly through the COM port. This can not be used when trying to enable Link to Net.

• Is there a routable network protocol installed?

LapLink communicates over TCP/IP and IPX protocols only. If your network uses another protocol, LapLink will not be able to communicate over them.

• On computers running Windows 95 or Windows 98, is Dial Up Networking (DUN) 1.3 or greater installed?

Follow these steps to determine if DUN 1.3 is installed on your computer:

1. From the Windows Start menu, point to Settings and click Control Panel.


2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.


3. Click the Install/Uninstall tab to see if Dial up Networking version 1.3 is listed.

Note: You can download the update from Microsoft's web site if it is not installed on your system.

• What type of network authentication process are you using?

Link to Net requires Windows authentication and Client for Microsoft Networks to run. If you are on a UNIX network using Dword items or an IPX network, you cannot use Link to Net. .
Follow these steps to ensure you're using the proper network login:

1. From the Windows Start menu, point to Settings and click Control Panel.


2. Double-click Network.


3. Verify Client for Microsoft Networks is listed and the primary network logon.
