Missing DNS Routing Causes LinkToNet Connection to Fail when Running in Windows 95 and Windows NT
- Search Again SUMMARY I am dialing into a LinkToNet host and making a successful connection, but after that I can't get to any Internet connections to work. If I try to browse the Internet, the response back may be HTTP 404 - File Not Found or The page cannot be displayed. If I'm trying to connect to another LapLink machine, I receive a Reading Services Failed message.
CAUSE This condition is caused by Domain Name Service (DNS) information not being routed across the LinkToNet connection from the host. This happens on hosts running Windows 95 or Windows NT that are assigned dynamic IP addresses and DNS connections by DHCP. The solution is to change to specific or static IP addresses for Domain Name Servers for the LinkToNet host and client machines. This scenario has not be documented on computers running Windows 98, Windows Millennium or Windows 2000.
