SOLUTION

For a computer running Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows Millennium:

  1. From the Windows Start menu, click Run.

  2. In the Open box, type WINIPCFG.

  3. The IP Configuration dialogue box will appear. Make sure the network adapter card is highlighted in the top drop down box, then read the IP address. If your network card is not box, click on the down arrow in order to select the network adapter.

For a computer running Windows NT , Windows 2000, or Windows XP:
  1. From the Windows Start menu, click Run .

  2. In the Open box type CMD and click OK.

  3. At the C:\> prompt, type IPCONFIG /ALL and press Enter.

  4. Find the section for the network adapter card
  5. .

Compare the IP address to the address ranges listed below:
    10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
    172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
    192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255

If the IP address fits into any of these ranges, then your computer has been assigned a non-routable IP address. This may be due to the computer being assigned an address to work with a Network Address Translation (NAT) device.
