From Joe Mehaffey: I asked Garmin Engineering why a) it sometimes takes a minute or so to see a new waypoint in the "nearest 9" display and b) Why city data points are NOT included in the nearest 9 listing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Joe. There are several answers pertinent to your questions. 1) A "Master list" of waypoints is maintained in the unit as a database searched for nearest criteria. This "Master List" is searched for the 9 nearest waypoints and the nearest waypoint list and waypoints shown on the map is updated on a once-per-second basis. 2) Addition of newly created waypoints to this "master list" used for nearest waypoint search is a relatively low priority task for the processor, and will be periodically updated depending upon processor load. Adding a new waypoint into the "master list" can take up to 60 seconds. 3) City Database points are NOT considered in this search for "nearest9" as these waypoints are so numerous, a long time would be spent in such a search. However, you CAN set a USER WAYPOINT on top of a city data point and then it will be included in the search. Garmin Engineering. Compiled by Joe Mehaffey
