A COMPILATION OF UNDOCUMENTED DATA IN MAGELLAN UNITS RECOVERY: Below are the recovery instructions for a dead MAP330 or Meridian. They are written for the MAP330 but they work just as well for the Meridians. 1. If your MAP330/Meridian in in a "locked up" state (stuck on), power it down by holding down MARK/GOTO and the ESC keys and press ENTER. This will power down the unit. 2. Power it up in "Software upload mode" by holding down MARK/GOTO and the ESC keys and press POWER. Unit shold power up with a "software upload mode active" message. 3. Run magup.exe, select NO at the dialog box. Click on "Expert" and checkmark "On" for the "Expert Upload" setting (be sure MAP 330/Meridian is selected (not Meridian GPS) as the "Unit Type" and click "OK" 4. Select the firmware file by clicking on "File" then "Select Code File". The firmware file should have a name like MGOLD312.HEX, ZORRO204.SRE, ZORRO204.HEX, or MRDN3_08.HEX. 5. Click on "Upload" and click "OK". Checkmark "Program Code and base map". Check "Upload File". ***************************************** ACTIVATE CODES: With the 3 latest magellan units (330, meridian, and sport track). you can shut off WAAS in 2 ways. 1. Before turning on the unit hold GOTO-NAV (also works with just the NAV button, but you need to hold power button down longer) and turn the unit on. You should see a box with 00 in it, change to 03 and hit enter. This will take you to the WAAS status page, to turn off hit enter and shut down. The second method alows you to check it while the reciever is on, you can also turn it off and on while the reciever is on. From any page hit the MENU key, then hit right-left-right-left. This will take you to the box again (same as before to shut it off). To get off of this screen hit ESC twice. The esc twice only works when you enter the box throught the menu(right-left-right-left). When you turn it on with the NAV or GOTO&NAV button you have to power the unit down when your done. If you hit esc it locks up, to shut it off without taking out the battery press ESC-GOTO-ENTER at the same time. After you change WASS to ON or OFF (under the 03) you have to hit exit twice and power off and than power back on. Anything short of that may lock up the receiver for a bit but no real harm done... AFAIK -Barbara Walton ************************************** DEFINITIONS: FAST, LONG, and IONO: "fast" refers to the satellite clock (Fast/Slow) "long" refers to the satellite position (Ephemeris Data) "iono" is obviously ionospheric (delays) The first line indicates whether the use of the particular corrections has been enabled. The second line contains the number of corrections actually decoded and stored in the unit. The third line contains the number of satellite ranges that have been corrected by the given correction in the last fix. Observing the above gives a good indication of how long it really takes for the WAAS to kick in, and it does make fairly obvious that after cycling the power, the receiver needs just mere seconds to "recover". To me, it also indicates that in J&J test, the 10 minutes after cycling the power was time required for autoaveraging contribution to have really positive effect, not for WAAS. -Andrew Kalinowski ********************** MORE CODES: The following information was not supplied by Magellan.
