Lowrance announces the features of their coming (August 1998) Program

MapCreate is a PC program (Win95/NT) that allows a user to view Lowrance
databases on your computer, DRAW YOUR OWN MAP OUTLINE, and load the
selected map segment into your Lowrance GPS.  MapCreate also provides
complete control over what type of data is used.  Each data type can be
turned on or off to control whether or not it is included in the final
map.  For the U.S., the data types are:

-Water Bodies from the IMS SmartMap series
-Streams from the IMS SmartMap series
-Railroads (New.  Not in any of our existing maps.)
-Rural Roads (New.  Not in any of our existing maps.)
-Highways from the IMS SmartMap series
-Water Names from the IMS SmartMap series
-City Names from the IMS SmartMap series
-Rural Road Names (New.  Not in any of our existing maps.)
-Highway Symbols from the IMS SmartMap series
-Wrecks and Obstructions (New marine data.  Now also available within
MapSelect.)
-Marine Navaids from the navaids data in MapSelect.

So all of the data contained in the IMS SmartMaps are available, plus the
new Rural Roads, all user-selectable.  So the user now gets to choose the
EXACT OUTLINE AND COVERAGE AREA of a map, as well as what information it
contains, as long as it will fit in the 2MB of flash memory in the GPS (two
maps of 1MB or less can be loaded).

Currently, MapCreate can be used with the following products:
Lowrance AirMap 100
Lowrance GlobalMap 100
Lowrance GlobalMap 12
Lowrance LMS-160 Map (gimbal mount)
Lowrance GlobalMap 1600 (gimbal mount)
Eagle MapGuide Pro
Eagle UltraMap (gimbal mount)
Eagle AccuMap GPS (gimbal mount)

NOTE:  Apparently the maps in RURAL areas will be quite complete,  but Lowrance does
not YET have downloadable city street level maps.  Hopefully,  it won't be long before street level
downloadable maps for the GM-100 etc. will be available.
