APRS> The Automatic Packet Reporting System

Amateur  Radio  Operators have designed and put into  service  in  many  parts of the world,  a very unique GPS based system.   This system consists of a GPS receiver in your automobile along with a Terminal  Node Controller (TNC) and (usually) a UHF or VHF  voice  radio.   Using this system,  the precise location of the  automobile  is  transmitted through a packet  node  (repeater)  system.

Other  Amateur Radio Operators listening at any of the nodes  can track the progress of ALL vehicles equipped with APRS  throughout the covered region.

For more than you ever wanted to know about APRS,  Go to the TAPR GPS+APRS WEBSITE or  you may want to go to the APRS Special Interest Group (SIG) at the TAPR website.
